Girasol

“Girasol quartz” is a trade name for extremely pale rose quartz that displays either opalescence or an inner blue and golden glow.  These optical phenomena are produced by the girasol effect, light scattering off microscopic inclusions inside.  The word comes from the Italian girasole, “turn towards the sun”, and originally referred to a milky blue glass first produced in Venice during the Renaissance.  “Girasol quartz” comes from the same mines that produce “star rose quartz”, so it is also known by the trade names “white star quartz” and “white rose quartz”.
