Emerald Green Fluorite Flame
Madagascar is not known for its fluorite. While the mineral has been documented scientifically across the island, the deposits are small and not very high quality. This incredible “Emerald Green Fluorite” comes from the largest known working mine. Even then only a few kilos out of several tons have this level of translucency and color, especially those large enough to make flame and free form sculptures. The massive form of fluorite tends to have prominent fibrous structures, color banding, and natural fractures.
Fluorite is used industrially as a flux, an additive that either helps metals melt easier or brings impurities to the surface to be purified. Most of its metaphysical properties derive from this use like bringing order to chaos, returning things to wholeness, and restoring a proper flow to the mental, emotional, or energetic bodies. The vibrant rich color of this“Emerald Green Fluorite” associates it specifically with cleansing and restoring the heart chakra, abundance, and well being.
This flame is closer to an olive green than a dark emerald green. Unfortunately the photos did not capture the color of these pieces very accurately. It was sculpted with soft curves, like a candle flame rather than a blazing fire. Some areas are very translucent while others are more opaque. Small specks could be hematite, pyrite, or mica inclusions but they are too small to see clearly, even with a loupe. There a few small nicks on the bottom edge and a hairline fracture down the center of one side.
This flame weighs approximately 2.00 lbs. and measures approximately 4 3/4" X 3 1/2" X 1 1/2".
